Since as long as I can remember, I’ve always been somewhat of a series addict. When my sister and I were little, we would eagerly rush home from school to tune into our favourite series. Now that I’m older, nothing’s really changed (although, I’m now accompanied by husband not my sister, and school has been replaced with work). It’s so funny to think back to the series my sister and I used to love. They were so stereotypically Australian and usually involved people with extraordinary abilities.
One of our all-time favourites was a really unusual series called Around the Twist. I can still remember the theme song word-for-word. The storyline was simple, an Australian family moves to a small coastal city to live in a lighthouse that turns out to be haunted. The adventures that take place in the lives of this family were quirky to say the least. It’s probably the most memorable series from my childhood and also probably one of the only ones I could re-watch as an adult.
Anyway, enough with reminiscing about the past. I’m here to share with you 5 great things to watch this month.
The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel (Prime Video)
I was a little late to the game with this series. It actually aired in March last year but I only just got around to watching it. I wasn’t sure if the story line which is based on a stand-up comedian would be for me, but I quickly came to love it. Mrs Maisel, isn’t just an ordinary 1950s housewife, nor is she a typical stand up comedian. She’s a unique character that pushes past the boundaries of what women should and should not do during that particular time period. She’s funny, witty, confident, and makes you want to keep watching. The vintage fashion and soundtrack also gets a big tick from me.
A Drink with James (YouTube)
I don’t watch a lot of YouTube videos, but I must say, I’m a little addicted to A Drink with James. The host, James Ford, shares his abundant knowledge of all things influencer related. He covers everything from working with PRs to the pricing of content. He also interviews some big names in the blogging industry such as Jenny Cipoletti from Margo and Me and Jacey Duprie from Damsel in Dior. It’s a must watch for anyone just getting started as a blogger or Instagrammer.
Santa Clarita Diet season 2 (Netflix)
I’m so happy to see the return of Santa Clarita Diet. I’m a huge fan of light-hearted, quirky series and this series is definitely that. Drew Barrymore plays a realtor turned living dead. The series follows her journey as she struggles to maintain a normal life despite the fact she now devours human flesh for dinner.
Ok, this is shameful, I know, but to be perfectly honest, I love trashy Australian reality TV. I was sick last week and churned through the first 8 episodes in two days! Surprisingly, Julien also became quite addicted and just between us, he now makes me wait to watch it with him at night haha. The drama in this show is ridiculous enough to make you laugh and it’s fun to place bets on who will end up together.
The Fall (Netflix)
I love a good serial killer, murder mystery series and this is one of the best I’ve seen in quite some time. It’s not often a culprit remains the star for more than one season but in The Fall they manage to keep you wondering what will happen next throughout three seasons. An excellent series for those loving a good drama/thriller and one I definitely recommend.
Ingrid Goes West (Film)
This is the ultimate summer chic flic! I recently watched this when I flew back from Australia and loved it. The film follows the journey of Ingrid, an obsessive Instagram stalker, who moves to the West Coast to befriend her Instagram idol. As she assumes her new identity, she shows the falseness behind many accounts and just how easy it is to fake the perfect life online. A film the Instagram obsessed will love!
So, there you have a few of my favs for the month. I’m always on the hunt for a new series (particularly a good murdery/ serial killer series at the moment), so please drop me a comment and let me know your favourites!
